Configuring softphone for IhelpIT VoIP server

IhelpIt VoIP server is accepting both SIP and IAX2 capable softphones

Zoiper is one of the few softphones that understand both protocols
We will be configure it to use IAX2 protocol as it is more NAT friendly

Here are the steps involved

1. Download the software from here
http://www.zoiper.com/free.php

2. request an account from IhelpIT from here
http://www.ihelpit.ca/contact.html

3. Upon account creation approval, you will receive an email with
the following information:

server name
username
password
a list of useful extensions

4. install Zoiper on a computer that has Internet access

5. configure it using information from the email

click on "Options"
click on " IAX account" - "Add a new IAX Account"
enter the following:

name as "IhelpIT-your_first_name"
server name as "server name" provided in the email
username as "username" provided in the email
password as "password" provided in the email
caller ID name as "IhelpIT-your_first_name"
caller ID number as username

Please note that username is actually your extension and it will be
in the 6000 - 6999 range

6. upon successfully configuring it, you will see the name of the account under "Accounts"
Click on the "Register" button and make sure
the name of the button changes into "unregister"

7. start making calls

Important notes
Your ability to make certain calls will be dependent on the type of account created
and will be fully described in the email.

Troubleshooting

if you cannot "register"
Please enable "Diagnostics" under "Options'- "Show Advanced Options"
and send me the log files using the same contact info you used for asking
for an account. The log files generated by Zoiper are located in the Zoiper
Installation folder
